It seems that wget is installed with after digits the command brew install wget. But now if I digit on terminal: wget tlc.dii.univpm.it/fb4fd curl: Remote file name has no length! Curl: try 'curl -help' or 'curl -manual' for more information – Sara Savio Oct 12 '18 at 7:54. #homebrew; #mac; #wget; How to install wget on your Mac #. Ok, so Mac is cool and stuff, but it doesn't come with wget by default, which in my opinion sucks.wget is a very useful tool and is used for downloading installation files among other stuff; it ought to be there on your Mac. Getting wget on Mac OS X is pretty easy, so worry not. Just follow my instructions. I update mac to Sierra, 10.12.3. My wget stop working. When I tried to install by typing. Brew install wget -with-libressl I got the following warning. Warning: wget-1.19.1 already installed, it's just not linked. Then tried to unsintall by typing. Brew uninstall wget -with-libressl Then I reinstalled by typing. Brew install wget.
I like using Terminal, it is usually much more efficient and a lot quicker then the normal methods you use on your Mac. This post is about one widely used tool on UNIX and Linux systems, wget. Wget is a small program that can download files and folders to your computer through Terminal. There is already program similar to wget on your Mac, it is called curl. Although they do the same task, I prefer wget. When I tried curl on my computer it threw up lots of errors and problems. This post will tell you how to install wget and some simple basic usage. It is simple to do and really doesn’t take that long. I can’t take full credit for this tip, I took some of the steps from asitis. https://shiftever948.weebly.com/paint-dot-net-download-for-mac.html.
The first step is to download the source code. Head over to the offical site and download the code directly. Once as you have downloaded the package unzip it. There will be a lots of funky files and folders. Thankfully we don’t have to deal with any of them. Open up Terminal and navigate to the folder wget is extracted in. For example:
cd ~/desktop/temp/wget-1.9.1
We know need to configure the package for your computer and install it. This is done slightly differently to normal packages and folders you may experience. In Terminal again type the following:
./configure
This will configure the packages and files for your computer. Then type:
This will copy the binary file into the correct location on your computer. Since the folder wget will copy into is a protected system folder, you will have to use the sudo command and an administrator password.

You have successfully installed wget. For example you can use wget to download zip files using the following command in Terminal.
Wget is designed to download files and web pages in Terminal but it can do a whole lot more. For some reason the link to the man page does not seem to work. So you can visit this URL instead.
You can do hundreds of different things with wget. It really is quite powerful and very easy to use. I recommend reading the man page to find out how to use it. You probably wont use it every day, but for anyone who likes using Terminal, or wants to play around with some more Unix commands, wget is a very fun one to use. If I remember correctly there was an old joke where you type “wget *.*” to download the entire internet.
If you want to take your skills with Terminal a bit further I recommend you check out the Terminal Category on this site. If you fancy reading a book there is a couple on Amazon that I regularly see mentioned and recommend, O’reilly Unix Geeks and Unix Under the Hood both are designed for Mac OS X and take Terminal further.

HI, Guys. I am using mac osx, days ago while i was working on amazon web services, i was in need to download some contents from external url to my amazon EC2 instance storage. I tried wget url but that not worked , so i found that curl is already available on mac osx. so here is a way to get wget working on mac osx.
The command line tool wget lets you retrieve a group of files from FTP and HTTP protocols, it’s a very useful utility for web developers and powerusers to have around because it lets you do things like perform quick and dirty site backups and even mirror websites locally.
This approach is going to build and install wget in OS X from source, this means you’ll need Xcode and the Unix dev tools (free @ Mac App Store) installed, but it has the benefit of eliminating the need of a package manager like Homebrew or MacPorts.
Assuming you have Xcode and the command line tools installed, launch Terminal and enter the following commands:
First, use curl to download the latest wget source: curl -O http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/wget/wget-1.13.4.tar.gz
Night eye options for youtube macos. Configure with the appropriate –with-ssl flag to prevent a “GNUTLS not available” error: ./configure –with-ssl=openssl
Mac Os X 10.11 Download
Build the source: make
Install wget, it ends up in /usr/local/bin/: sudo make install
Confirm everything worked by running wget: wget –help
Clean up by removing wget source files when finished: cd . && rm -rf wget*
